Challenge
Psyma, a market research institute from Germany with 260 employees, had challenges with the internal reporting tool and dashboard solution, as changes were heavily dependent on the product providers. Customizations were time-consuming, expensive, and error-prone, while the lack of visibility into the data model made optimization difficult. Additionally, the manual data reconciliation process burdened system performance as data volumes grew.
Analysis
Limited control over changes increased dependence on the product provider and restricted Psyma’s flexibility. Change processes were lengthy and resource-intensive, often accompanied by recurring technical issues. The lack of insight into the data model further complicated understanding and optimization. The manual data update process was inefficient, consuming significant time and resources. As data volumes increased, the internal tool reached its limits, resulting in performance issues and potential system crashes.
Implementation
The solution was based on Power BI to improve flexibility, efficiency, and scalability. A self-developed self-service module reduced dependency on third-party providers. Integrated data modeling and predefined connectors enabled direct access to databases, cloud services, and APIs. Power BI’s model view improved visibility of the data structure, while a data directory provided clear metadata. Real-time access via direct queries and live connections replaced time-consuming data imports. A central data model minimized redundancies and made it easier to reuse components in reports. Integration into both local IT infrastructures and cloud environments allows for flexible deployment. Shared workspaces and integrated version control support efficient collaboration.
