The challenge
The sudden shift to working from home presented ESTW with unexpected challenges. A stable IT infrastructure was essential in order to maintain smooth operations and ensure employee productivity. It also quickly became clear that the existing security concept was no longer up to date. There was a lack of modern protection mechanisms that met the increased data protection and compliance requirements. A flexible, scalable and, above all, secure solution was urgently needed to make the company fit for the future.
Analyse
Our first step was a comprehensive analysis of ESTW’s existing IT and workplace environment. This included a detailed inventory of existing systems, an assessment of network security and a survey of user requirements. This in-depth investigation allowed us to identify weaknesses such as outdated authentication procedures and manually managed security policies. We found that the existing infrastructure had not only reached its performance limits, but also had considerable potential for optimisation in terms of scalability and security standards. At the same time, remote workstation requirements were evaluated to ensure that employees could securely access important applications and data at any time and from anywhere.
Realisation
Based on the results of the analysis, we developed a comprehensive, step-by-step roadmap for the introduction of Microsoft 365 (M365) services. The first milestone was the creation of a hybrid infrastructure that combined existing on-premise systems with the cloud. This enabled a seamless transition of identity management through the implementation of Azure Active Directory (AAD) Connect servers. A particularly critical phase was the secure migration of user identities, where strict authentication policies & security protocols were integrated. To secure the implementation, we carried out extensive tests, proof of concepts (POCs) and pilot projects. These included multi-factor authentication (MFA) & role-based access controls, for the optimal protection of data. Parallel to the technical implementation, we trained ESTW employees in the use and benefits of the new M365 solutions. This promoted acceptance and ensured a smooth transition, as users quickly got used to the new tools and processes.
Benefits for the customer:
The introduction of M365 led to a significant reduction in operating costs and a modernisation of the on-premise infrastructure at ESTW. Thanks to the hybrid identity migration and the implementation of the latest security standards, the availability and reliability of the identity services were significantly improved. In addition, the new collaboration tools significantly improved internal communication and collaboration. The M365 solution promoted productive working and enabled employees to collaborate remotely at ESTW. ESTW’s IT department benefited from simplified administration and was able to focus more on strategic projects, instead of being burdened with day-to-day maintenance work.
