Overview: In the midst of global supply chain challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, Nokia and HWS successfully overcame the challenge of providing a robust and scalable IT infrastructure for a joint customer.
Challenge
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Nokia and the HWS Group faced significant bottlenecks in global supply chains, which severely impacted the availability of IT hardware. This presented the two partners with the challenge of modernizing and scaling the IT infrastructure of a joint customer to meet future requirements. At the same time, the existing system performance had to be ensured even though hardware components were only available with a delay. One particular difficulty was guaranteeing high system availability and reliability despite the supply chain problems.
Analyse
To overcome this challenge, Nokia and the HWS Group carried out a thorough planning and testing phase. This included testing network connectivity, new routers, ESXi hosts and failover mechanisms. The aim was to ensure that the system would remain stable even in the event of hardware failures. In addition, detailed planning of the virtual infrastructure was carried out. Virtual machines, such as the APT Cluster Node and the IXIA Suite Store, were configured to optimally support the critical functions of automated testing and network management.
Realisation
Given the delays in hardware procurement, a flexible approach was taken to optimize the network layout based on available resources. Comprehensive documentation enabled additional hardware to be seamlessly integrated as it became available. Finally, the IT infrastructure was enhanced by expanding the vSAN environment to increase storage flexibility and system performance. The continuous review of network connectivity and structured integration of new hardware ensured a stable and scalable IT environment. Thanks to the close cooperation between Nokia and HWS, the project was successfully completed, even under difficult global conditions.

The implementation of the vSAN environment significantly increased storage flexibility and performance. Optimized network connectivity ensured high availability and resilience, despite global supply chain issues. The close collaboration between Nokia and HWS enabled a rapid response to changing requirements. The customer now has a modern, efficient and future-proof IT environment, which is continuously reviewed and further developed through the partnership.
